Love, Rosie - Cecelia Ahern

Summary

Rosie and Alex are destined for one another, and everyone seems to know it but them. Best friends since childhood, their relationship gets closer by the day, until Alex gets the news that his family is leaving Dublin and moving to Boston. At 17, Rosie and Alex have just started to see each other in a more romantic light. Devastated, the two make plans for Rosie to apply to colleges in the U.S.

She gets into Boston University, Alex gets into Harvard, and everything is falling into place, when on the eve of her departure, Rosie gets news that will change their lives forever: She's pregnant by a boy she'd gone out with while on the rebound from Alex.

Her dreams for college, Alex, and a glamorous career dashed, Rosie stays in Dublin to become a single mother, while Alex pursues a medical career and a new love in Boston. But destiny is a funny thing, and in this novel, structured as a series of clever e-mails, letters, notes, and a trail of missed opportunities, Alex and Rosie find out that fate isn't done with them yet.

Review

The only reason I even started to read this book was due to the movie trailer of the book when I was randomly searching through Youtube.

I really enjoy reading the stereotypical "Chick Flicks" because believe it or not, they are actually pretty darn interesting.   My favorite type of romance is either the best friend romance or the enemy romance.  That is what roped me into reading and wishing to watch the movie when it comes out.

Anyways, I thought that this book had a very interesting format in telling the story: by emails, text messages, and letters.  To be honest, that part of book made me a bit disappointed because I am so use to the cookie-cut way of how books are written: paragraphs.  I thought at first it was a phase of the book, but it turned out to be the whole book format except for the epilogue.

I especially enjoyed the type of relationship between Rosie and Alex.  I mean how much cuter can it get?

Spoiler!!! Can I tell you how much it annoyed me that these two best friends who were meant for each other got together when they were what? 50 years old!  The whole entire book, I was holding my breath, but with each birthday card, I was the verge of a panic attack.  Honestly,  that would have been slightly okay if they didn't end the book with "they smiled at each other".  SERIOUSLY, all their lives and that's ALL THEY DO!?!  Also, (This may the part of me that society built us up to be ashamed of) they got divorced, married, had sexual intercourse, and a baby for heaven sakes! EACH!!!  That probably didn't make sense, so read the book and you will understand it if you are reading the spoiler.

However, despite the fact that I want to rip the book or throw a pillow at it, I really appreciate how the author made the book reflect what would really happen in real life.  Most books would create this perfect image of a character and make us all boastful of our future spouse, but in reality, there is no one that can come close to what we wish would just jump out of the pages of these unrealistic books.
